Fake Google Ads Are Tricking Users into Installing Harmful Apps

A new scam is targeting Mac users who search Google for popular apps, especially AI tools like Claude. Scammers buy Google ads that look like real software download links. When someone clicks the ad, they are sent to a fake website that looks like an official Claude or AI app download page.

Who Is at Risk

People searching the web for software, support, or AI tools are at risk.

What to Watch For

Watch for sponsored search results that send you to pages asking you to download or run something unexpectedly.

What to Do

Do not download Mac apps from Google ads or sponsored search results. Instead, go directly to the company’s official website by typing the address yourself or using a trusted bookmark.
