Fake Google Security Checks Are Targeting Gmail Users

Cybercriminals are impersonating Google with a fake “security check” that tricks users into installing malicious tools and granting access to sensitive data like contacts, location, and account information.

Who Is at Risk

Anyone with a Gmail account who clicks on unexpected alerts, pop-ups, or links claiming their account is at risk.

What to Watch For

Unexpected messages or pop-ups that urge you to install a security tool, enable notifications, share contacts, or grant location access—especially if they create a sense of urgency or take you outside Google’s site.

What to Do

Close the message, do not install anything or grant permissions, and then open your Google Account security settings yourself by typing the address to check for real alerts and review recent activity and connected apps.
