Got a Package You Didn’t Order? Don’t Scan the QR Code

Scammers are mailing out random packages with QR codes, counting on your curiosity to do the rest. One scan can lead to fake websites or apps designed to steal your information.

Who Is at Risk

Frequent online shoppers and older adults are most at risk.

What to Watch For

Look for packages with no clear sender, notes asking you to scan a QR code, or any prompts that request personal details or to download an app.

What to Do

Do not scan the QR code; if you already did, close the page, do not enter information or install anything. Report the incident to the FBI at https://www.ic3.gov/
