“Hi Pervert” Scam Circulating Across the Country

Scammers are sending emails that claim a person was recorded through their camera or caught visiting embarrassing websites. Some of these emails start with phrases like “Hello pervert” or “Hey pervert,” and some may even look like they came from the recipient’s own email account. The scammer may also include an old password to make the message seem real.

Who Is at Risk

Anyone who has an email address is a possible target for this scam.

What to Watch For

Watch for threatening emails claiming you were recorded, asking for payment, or showing an old password as “proof.” That password usually comes from a past data breach, not from someone hacking the device today.

What to Do

Do not reply or pay; delete the message and change any password mentioned if it is still in use.
